INSPIRATION

"When I was young I learned to focus on everything that surrounded me. Fully aware and fascinated that this was the first time I watched the earth as a human being, I asked myself: `What is going on around here?' I developed a fascination for the occult, for Buddhism, music and I read an awful lot, but as an adolescent I was confronted with reality. The human dream turned out to be a nightmare with wars, pollution, jealousy, racial and social unjustice. I want to open the eyes of people who refuse to see this, confront them. The first thing they told me at the Academy of Fine Arts was to forget inspiration, to forget all content. It made me angry back then. It still does. Everything that is artificial originates from a lack of inspiration, a lack of content. A lack of philosophy."
